09:33  Pelerin: Dollar May Advance Against Yen as U.S. Treasury Yields Attract 2005-07-25 00:21 (New York) By John Brinsley and Kosuke Goto July 25 (Bloomberg) --The dollar may advance against the yen for a second day in Asia on speculation rising Treasury yields will lure investors to U.S. assets. The 10-year Treasury-note yield was 4.22 percent, close to a three-month high and has climbed 30 basis points, or 0.3 percentage point, since June 30. The dollar is up 8.5 percent against the yen and 12 percent versus the euro this year as the Federal Reserve has lifted interest rates nine times since June 2004, in contrast with the central banks of Japan and Europe. ``The widening interest-rate gap between the U.S., Germany and Japan is the major factor supporting the dollar,'' said Keizo Tanaka, senior currency dealer in Tokyo at Resona Bank Ltd. ``The dollar looks strong.'' Against the yen, the dollar bought 111.57 at 1:15 p.m. in Tokyo, from 111.32 late on July 22 in New York, according to electronic foreign-exchange dealing system EBS. It was also at $1.2050 per euro, from $1.2064. The dollar may rise to 112 yen today and 115 yen by year-end, Tanaka said. He also expects the euro to fall to $1.18 by December.

Traders, investors and strategists are the most bullish on the yen since the first week in June, according to a Bloomberg News survey taken the day after China revalued. Fifty-three percent of the 49 people surveyed on July 22 from Sydney to New York advised purchasing the yen against the dollar. Almost three-quarters expect the yen to rise versus the euro. China's revaluation ``changes everything,'' said Callum Henderson, head of global currency strategy in Singapore at Standard Chartered Plc. ``The expansion of the trading band is good for the yen. The yen above 111 is a good buying opportunity'' as it may rise to 108 per dollar this week, he said. People's Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan said the yuan revaluation last week is an ``initial'' step, fueling speculation the country will strengthen the currency further, the Financial Times reported. The revaluation isn't enough to stop speculation the currency will rise further, the China Securities Journal reported, citing Yu Yongding, a member of the central bank's monetary policy committee.
