23:48 KeT4yn: The sales chief for General Motors Corp. (GM) gave a passionate defense of the auto maker's eight-brand strategy Friday, just days after the company's board elected a shareholder representative who has suggested cutting some nameplates.
Mark LaNeve, vice president of sales, service and marketing for GM, said the auto maker's portfolio "is not a weakness, but actually a strength" if managed properly. In North America, GM sells cars and trucks under the Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, and Cadillac name plates. "Customers don't buy GM, they buy our brands," LaNeve said during a speech at a dealer conference here. GM shares were down 1.45% at $21.81 in late trading. |
