04:07  AlexGrig: The yen pared its earlier gains against high-yielding currencies as risks aversions calmed down when US stock market rallied today.

US stocks rebounded sharply on Wednesday with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq up more than 2%. As a result, the yen slid broadly as investors resume carry trades. Also, the dollar lost its lust as a safe-haven when risk aversion declined. The dollar rose from below 114 to test the 116 handle versus the yen, while the sterling rallied sharply from low 227 to as high as 234.10.

Besides, carry trades in which the yen is borrowed as a funding currency are not likely to disappear as the Bank of Japan is widely expected to keep its interest rates unchanged at current low level in the medium term.

The minutes of the FOMC meeting on August 7 showed committee members agreed a policy response might be required if the financial conditions deteriorate further. The Fed downwardly revised its growth outlook for the second half of 2007 and 2008 due partly to the financial market turbulence. Interest-rate futures pricing indicated a rising bets on a Fed rate cut in its September meeting.

It is hard to estimate to what extent the weak US housing market and credit crunch will hurt the domestic and global economy. One of the largest credit rating agencies, Fitch rating, cut credit rating for several homebuilders today. Besides, a report showed US mortgage application declined 4% despite lower interest rates. All recent data pointed to deterioration in the housing and credit market, which keep the market nervous.

EURUSD will face interim resistance at 1.3680, followed by 1.37 and 1.3730. Additional ceilings will emerge at 1.3750, backed by 1.3780. Support starts at 1.3650, backed by 1.3630, 1.36 and 1.3560. Subsequent floors are eyed at 1.3530.

04:09  AlexGrig: GBPUSD encounters interim resistance at 2.0180, backed by 2.0200 and 2.0230. Subsequent ceilings will emerge at 2.0250, followed by 2.0280 and 2.03. On the downside, support begins at 2.0150, followed by 2.0120 and 2.01. Additional floors are eyed at 2.0070, backed by 2.0050 and 2.0020.

USDJPY encounters interim resistance at 116.30, backed by 116.50 and 116.80. Subsequent ceilings will emerge at 117, followed by 117.30 and 117.50. On the downside, support begins at 116 and 115.80, followed by 115.50. Additional floors are eyed at 115.30, backed by 115 and 114.70.
